A realtime active-user value describes an observation window. It is not the same as total daily users, sessions or page views. Check which source is selected for the website before comparing counts.
Choose the source
In the site settings, Active users source can use automatic GA4/Presence selection, GA4 only or Presence only. The required property or collector must actually be configured; choosing a source does not authorize or install it.
Read the live card
The active-user value and minute bars come from supported retained observations. They are not a guarantee of a new request to Google on every dashboard refresh. A peak can only reflect observations Brightstone retained, not an invented historical maximum.
Current live information may be hidden when you select a historical period such as Last month. Switch to an applicable current period before treating a hidden card as a collection failure.
If the value stops updating, check the source, connection and timestamp rather than repeatedly reconnecting or forcing provider refreshes. Browser/network interruptions and collection gaps can affect observations. Country/device data can be missing even when a total count exists; an empty dimension breakdown does not prove there were no visitors.
If these steps do not resolve your question, contact Brightstone support. Never include passwords, tokens or recovery codes.
